What’s Featured at Scion: The Simpli-tC and the Scion L-DZ Concept

What's Featured at Scion - 2013 Scion Tuner Challenge

The two cars we’re showcasing in this week’s edition of What’s Featured at Scion are coming to us straight from Las Vegas, where they just finished competing in the 2013 Scion Tuner Challenge at the SEMA Show. On the left is the Scion L-DZ Concept, built by Walter Franco of Namsayin from the Pacific Northwest, while on the right is the Simpli-tC built by Young Tea, best known as the founder of FRS86.

Walter’s Scion L-DZ Concept was created around a VIP theme, which is reflected both inside and out in the form of 20” Avant Garde F410 wheels, an air suspension from Air Zenith, and fully reupholstered seats with diamond leather stitching from Torres Upholstery. Our friends at Five Axis provided one off side skirts and front spats for the car, while the woodgrain and brushed metal dash was fone by Wise Concepts Hydrographics. Under the hood, a nitrous system from NOS and ASP custom stainless headers give the car an extra boost of power.

For his effort creating the Scion L-DZ concept, Walter earned 2nd place in the Scion Tuner Challenge while also earning the title of Fan Favorite Build by garnering the most votes on Facebook and Instagram. His build will be making appearances at Scion events throughout the remainder of this year and next.

In contrast to the Scion L-DZ Concept, Young Tea’s Simpli-tC was built to keep as much of the stock Scion tC’s character intact as possible. The car’s wide body kit was hand fabricated by Young and his team at the MV Designz shop in Southern California, with a lip kit also from MV Designz outfitted on the car. Its original red color was replaced with an alluring coat of Lite Teal Pearl paint from House of Kolors, and wheels from NuTek were installed on the car. Bringing out power from the 2AR motor is a Garrett T3 turbocharger, with a Dezod front mount intercooler. Seats, harnesses, and a steering wheel from Sparco outfit the interior, along with gauges from GReddy.

The quality of the work done on the Simpli-tC won favor with the judges, earning Young Tea 1st place in one of our most competitive Scion Tuner Challenges to date. Like Walter’s Scion L-DZ Concept, the Simpli-tC will also be traveling across the country for regional Scion events.
