RE:UP Boxed
Directed by Labour, EVAQ, Miguel Vega, Claire Carre, Akjak, and Destroy Rock Music

In every issue of RE:UP Magazine, a handful of designers are invited to take part in two-page spreads called the Middle Signature. This is an opportunity for world-class professionals and hot up-and-comers alike to flex their design skills within a rough conceptual theme that varies every issue. RE:UP's Boxed enlists six top directors / animators to collaborate on what is traditionally known as an "exquisite corpse" project: where one artist ends, another artist picks up and begins. Each designer is given a starting and ending key-frame of focus, in this case a cardboard box, to generate a two-minute short. The box starts its journey packed with the latest issue of RE:UP Magazine, then through the six different shorts, the box and its contents go on a mind-bending voyage. Each segment dovetails into the next and, once combined, will culminate in a 15-minute animated menagerie.

Labour was founded by longtime collaborators Ryan Dunn and Wyeth Hansen. Labour is a Brooklyn, NY-based creative office that works with film / video, print, audio, apparel, and an array of other media.

EVAQ is the alias of video artist and designer Asif Mian. Asif has worked on music videos for the likes of Aesop Rock, the Roots, and Woodhands. Asif has been nominated and awarded repeatedly for his work, including his 2006 Art Directors Club Young Guns award, given to the best designers and directors under the age of 30.

Miguel Vega is from Argentina. In 2006 he established his own studio, Accent Creative, to work on projects that range from music packaging design, to live video performance art and everything in between.

Claire Carre has worked within the United States and internationally on feature films, television, music videos, and commercials. She is now a director and has recently created music videos for artists such as Brett Dennen, Rainer Maria, and Sia.

Akjak is a creative collective with offices in New York and San Diego. Award-winning filmmaker Matt Goldman brings his skills as a writer / director / editor to the mix while renowned artist Josh Hassin offers his mastery of design and CG animation. Together, the two have created award-winning music videos, television inserts and short films.

Destroy Rock Music is a collaboration between Emmy Award winning designers Jason Bognacki and Clay Lipsky. Together they represent a new breed of Hollywood filmmaker that blurs the lines between director, designer, animator, cinematographer and editor.
