Justin Hampton has been creating high impact imagery since his arrival on the scene in 1990. He began his tenure in Seattle working for famed graphic designers Art Chantry and Jeff Kleinsmith at Rocket Magazine. A decade and a half later, he is renowned as a leader in the modern rock poster scene and has garnered international attention. His bold line work and sublime color palette, mixed with a vivid imagination, are unmistakable. His work can be seen in various galleries in Europe, Asia and Australia as well as in the States.
Born in Santa Cruz, California in the late sixties, Hampton's pop culture influences include album art and skatepunk as well as contemporary comic book artists like Jack Kirby and Mike Mignola. He has silk-screened images for the likes of Bob Dylan, Nick Cave, PJ Harvey, Radiohead, Marilyn Manson, Motorhead and Queens Of The Stone Age, to name a few. His posters have also appeared in various television shows and motion pictures.
His clients have included Rolling Stone, Spin, Interscope Records, Sports Illustrated, Dreamworks, Village Voice, Maxim, Vibe, FHM, Premiere, ESPN Magazine, Details, Hustler, Blender, The Paramount Theatre, Bike, Scene, Guitar World, Snowboarder, The Seattle Weekly and The Rocket. He has recently worked on ad campaigns for Dr. Martens shoes, Target and Nordstrom.
Hampton's comic books, "Twitch" and "Rat," have also received rave reviews. Seattle's Experience Music Project has archived countless numbers of his prints as well as originals for their permanent museum collection. Always seeking to push his artistic boundaries, Hampton has tried his hand at animation. His short "The Jaded Monk", based on a character of his own creation, was accepted to the 2002 Seattle International Film Festival and the 2003 One Reel Fesitval. Justin resides in Seattle with his wife Kasia and their newborn boy- Miles, two cats and a dog.
