David Choe

Born and Raised in Los Angeles, of Korean descent and an art school drop out, David Choe is a hustler, lover, thief, gambler, world traveler, arteest, and heart breaker. For most of his life, he was fueled by loneliness, anger, bitterness, rage, self-loathing, and idiosyncratic nihilism. In the last year, however, with a drastic turn of events, David is now powered, fueled, and driven by an emotion and feeling much greater than these, and of course that is LOVE.

Now 26, David has traveled to some of the most dangerous places on earth (the Gaza Strip, Congo Central Africa), and had adventures hitchhiking and hopping freight trains around the US. and Europe. Throughout his travels, David began documenting and photographing his journeys in sketchbooks and publishing them in magazines such as GIANT ROBOT, and VICE. He has also honed his graffiti skills as a young punk running the streets of Oakland and Los Angeles into a fine art style.

His First solo show was at a small ice cream shop on Melrose, called Double Rainbow where his show was supposed to run a month, but went up for 2 years, constantly changing after pieces started selling better than the ice cream.

David has won numerous awards and been published in almost every single magazine worth reading. In 1999 he put out his self-published award winning comic/novella/zine SLOW JAMS and in 2002 his art/photo/travel journal book BRUISED FRUIT. His Murals can be found on walls, from Los Angeles, to the bay Area, to the Middle East and Asia and inside museums, galleries and peoples' houses from coast to coast.
