Andrew Comrie-Picard, Jeremy Wimpey, and the Scion Racing Rally xD team have had seemingly every possible obstacle thrown their way this season, a streak that continued at last weekend’s Ojibwe Forests Rally. The event started innocuously enough, as ACP cleared Thursday’s practice session without encountering any major issues.
If anything, the pre-race shakedown allowed the team to confirm that the Scion Racing Rally xD’s setup was ready to take on the Ojibwe’s Forests Rally’s dusty trails.
The first day of the race included several night stages that were made even more difficult by the dirt hanging in the air. Thanks in no small part to the lighting provided by the Baja Designs LEDs outfitted on the Scion Racing Rally xD, ACP was able to keep the car in one piece and get it to Day 2 with a solid time.
The break between Saturday and Sunday gave the team some time to give the Scion Racing Rally xD a full service and double check everything on the car. After giving the fans at the event a close up look at the car at the morning’s Parc Expose, ACP was back on the trail.
After a solid start to Day 2, ACP and the Rally xD team began running into issues that nearly derailed their race. The Scion Racing Rally xD was hit by a flat tire, which was then compounded by the car rolling over. ACP and Jeremy Wimpey made it out of the accident unscathed, but it left their work cut out for them for the remainder of the Ojibwe Forests Rally.
Rolling the car caused the team to drop down to 3rd place, with the 4th place car right on their tail. Getting through to the end and earning a podium finish meant ACP had to run an essentially flawless race the rest of the way through.
Fortunately, that’s exactly what happened. The team held on to take home 3rd place at the Ojibwe Forests Rally and hold on to their Rally America 2WD Championship lead. With just one event left on the calendar, the Scion Racing Rally xD looks like it has a great shot and taking home its first championship.
