After seven months and six hard-fought events, we’re preparing to make our return to the House of Drift. Irwindale Speedway is once again hosting the 7th and final round of Formula Drift, giving the Papadakis Racing, GReddy Racing, and TAngelo Racing teams one last chance to leave their mark on the 2013 season.
Only 64 points separate Fredric Aasbo from the top of the Pro Championship standings, and if his consistent performances throughout the year have shown us anything, it’s that Fredric has as strong of a shot as anyone to bring home the title. Taking the Hankook Tire Scion Racing tC to the title will require a bit of good fortune, but regardless of his finish, Fredric’s performance this year has gone a long way in establishing him as one of the best drift drivers anywhere in the world.
Ken Gushi and the GReddy Racing team have been pushing hard all season, something we expect to see continue at Round 7. Though Ken’s year got off to a slow start, he’s come back strong as the season has progressed, and has shown some of the flair that’s made him a fan favorite driver. With Irwindale serving has Ken’s “home track” and nothing to lose, it’s a solid bet that we’ll see something special out of the GReddy Racing Scion FR-S.
Finally, Tony Angelo has done a tremendous job of putting an entirely new build together, and keeping it running throughout a grueling season. Each round, he’s gotten closer and closer to showing what the TAngelo Racing Scion FR-S is truly capable of, and this event just might be the one where everything comes together. Never one to hold anything back, Tony’s got a strong chance at disrupting this year’s championship race before he makes his own run next year.
