TRD Griffon 86: Scion FR-S Release Series 1.0 Inspiration 21 August 2014, 9:38 am

As the launch of the first Release Series Scion FR-S, we want to give you a behind the scenes look at the car that inspired its production – the Scion TRD FR-S Project Car. The 3-part series is currently live so be sure to check out how it was inspired, built and tested on the track.

This unique FR-S was originally inspired by the Griffon Toyota 86 built by TRD Japan, a car that was created to be a dedicated track car. We wanted to build this car around a similar concept, but with the added challenge of making it comfortable enough for street use while still able to go completely flat out on the track. In the first of this three part series, we head to Japan to discuss the philosophy behind the Griffon Toyota 86 with chief engineer Hiroshi Nashiki and take you inside our warehouse to watch as we modify that to fit the American market.
