Titan Races Independence Drags III
This past 4th of July weekend, Team Titan raced at Heartland Park in Topeka, Kansas. We started the Friday night qualifying for the Independence Drags III with a bang, running a solid 4.114 @ 177.3 mph. We had run with the second group and had snagged the #1 spot in qualifying. We held that spot until Jeff Naiser outran us in the last group by 1/1000th of a second! We remained in second for the remainder of qualifying. We also laid down a pair of 4.14's, keeping it consistent throughout.
On Saturday, during the first round of eliminations, we had a bye run. We used this opportunity to go after the E.T. record. Gary was running all out and ended up getting a little loose going down the track so he inevitably eased up on the throttle and just carried it down the track. During the second round we ran our quickest pass ever. We ran 4.084 @ 181.3mph! This was a great time that we hoped to replicate, but the weather conditions were changing rapidly. By the time we got to the semi-finals, the air had gotten a lot better than earlier in the day and actually made our tune a little too aggressive. During the semi's we were up against Billy Glidden. Gary left the starting line with a .046 light to Billy Glidden's .055, but we smoked the tires about 40 feet out. Billy made a good run and subsequently ended our weekend.
Although we didn't get the win, we were still happy with the times we ran, and the consistency we had maintained throughout the weekend.
Our next race will be at Virginia Motorsports Park on July 23-24. We have a few tickets available so if you are interested, send us an email and we will hook you up. We'll see you at the races!
