One of the goals we set for ourselves when developing the Scion FR-S was creating a true sports car that could be appreciated by anyone, regardless of how much or how little experience they had with vehicles. We like to think that’s something we’ve successfully accomplished, but to really but it to the test, we recently invited six of our favorite Scion AV artists out to Willow Springs International Raceway and put them behind the wheel of the FR-S.
The six guys we chose were an eclectic group that included pro skater Eli Reed, rapper A$AP Ferg of the A$AP Mob, producer and DJ Drop the Lime of Trouble and Bass, hip-hop producer SKYWLKR, Muncipal Waste Dummer Dave Witte, and Exodus singer Rob Dukes.
Since we were dealing with a group of people that had limited experience racing cars, we enlisted the help of two of Formula Drift’s best drivers – Fredric Aasbo and Ken Gushi, who both represent our brand as part of Scion Racing. Joining them to help corral all the talent and host the event was Jarrod DeAnda, best known as the voice and announcer of the Formula Drift series.
After a quick lesson and a practice run through the track, the guys were split into two teams – A$AP Ferg, SKYWLKR, and Dave Witte on Team Aasbo, and Rob Dukes, Eli Reed, and Drop the Lime on Team Gushi. Each of the Scion AV artists were given a chance for one full, timed lap, and the cumulative times for each team were added up. Want to see who won?
