Recap: Robert Stout and the Lucas Oil KSR Scion FR-S at Lime Rock Park 17 July 2013, 11:30 am

Scion FR-S World Challenge

The road through the Pirelli World Challenge Championships has been paved with obstacles for Robert Stout and the Lucas Oil KSR Scion FR-S. Merely competing in one of the toughest wheel to wheel road racing series in the world would be too much for most teams to take on, but doing so while simultaneously developing an entirely new platform takes an unfathomable amount of dedication to the sport.

Though the team has had more than their fair share of work cut out for them so far this season, the result of their effort finally began showing at WC Racing’s stop in Lime Rock Park. Robert submitted one of his best performances of the year during the qualifying session, earning an impressive 9th in a field of 25 drivers.

He rode his qualifying position to an incredible start that allowed him to shoot up as high as 5th place, while maintain a solid hold on 8th for the majority of the race. However, the Lucas Oil KSR Scion FR-S came into contact with a car from the GT class, and ended up dislodging his exhaust pipe from the muffler.

While he managed to work through the damage initially, fumes from the exhaust pipe began filling the cabin of Robert’s FR-S during a late caution flag that lasted for 5 laps. Ambient temperatures at the track that day had been hovering around 96 degrees in the shade, and were in range of 150 degrees inside the cabin of the car.

Robert, however, hung in for a remarkable finish despite the troubles, and only ended up giving up three spots en route to an 11th place finish – the team’s best of the season. As a testament to how hard he had been pushing both the car and especially himself, Robert had to be pulled from the car after the race and was sent directly to a medic. Though his vitals were initially disconcertingly low, Robert was doing fine after being moved into cooler temperatures and given plenty of water and rest.
